A New Year and Some News for 2018!

It’s a new year and season of change at your Williamston Area Chamber of Commerce. We have so much planned for our members and community in the next year, but first wanted to share some news about the Chamber and its Board of Directors.

First, I am sad to say that I have resigned as Executive Director of the Williamston Chamber due to unforeseen circumstances with my business that has forced me to leave Williamston and move back to the Detroit area.  This was certainly not in the cards when I took this job over last year and I’m going to miss the many wonderful people I’ve met in my short time in town.  Serving as Executive Director was not a job but a labor of love for a town that I quickly adopted and will continue to be part of.  For the foreseeable future I will still handle the weekly newsletter and social media for the Chamber but we are passing the management of the organization to two sets of very capable hands.  First, Tammy Scott, a long time board member and a community fixture, will handle the day-to-day as our new Executive Director. As always, you can reach her through the Chamber email address at  Secondly, Bruce Weber, who local residents see on a regular basis as the Store Director of D & W Fresh Market, will assume the role of Board Chair.  I am confident these changes will ensure that the Chamber will not miss a beat and continue to grow on what was accomplished in 2017.

There are a lot of changes ahead as well for our events and mixers.  First, we will be moving our Chamber Mixers to some new times to make attendance more convenient for our local members and businesses. First will be an evening event in February at the Depot featuring some great advice and insight on how to safeguard your business from internet viruses and predators. More information coming soon.  In March our mixers will move to mornings at 7:30 a.m. with free coffee and donuts and an opportunity for you to share with those in attendance what’s going on with your business.

We will be re-igniting “First Fridays” in February to give our local residents a chance to shop a little later at all of our great Williamston stores and businesses, our annual grub crawl has been moved to late Spring (May 23), and we are planning a weekly food truck rally concurrent with Concerts in the Park every Thursday this year, beginning in June.   We will also still be heavily involved in planning and supporting annual community events such as National Night Out, the Downtown Trick or Treating, as well as the Light Parade among many other events.

Needless to say, we are in good hands and are excited about the future of our local businesses and their association with the Williamston Chamber of Commerce as we continually look for new ideas and events bringing greater value to our members.  Also – we will be sending out renewal reminders for our members and will be offering a 15% discount to any business which renews their membership by Feb. 15.

Please make sure you reach out and say hi to Tammy and Bruce and feel free to share anything you’d like in regard to how we can help your businesses grow and thrive through your Chamber membership.
